Masculinity

 

masculinity is Less of an issue than it was in the past as artists like lady gaga constantly challenge the conventions of this.

The male gender have very little “self-pride” in comparison to women this means the distance between the two genders when it come to a music video is great. For example gaga is the most extreme female artist out there in my opinion, and she hasn’t exposed nearly as much as most male artists the most extreme currently is the song by Robby Williams in rock dj. 

Men are often seen to be the dominate sex and so are often portrayed like this until recently when both Rihanna and lady gaga have had male dancers. And in Gaga's video the male dancers were in female clothing.

Men represented in positive way so not brought up

One thing however men are judged much more harshly for being feminine than women are for being very masculine. This is only not true when glam rock is involved, glam rockers are overtly feminine or masculine, however their extremely open sexuality counteracts the feminine or masculine character.

What is needed for the shoot

I am going to attempt to build a strobe light to add effective lighting effects with no edditing a strobe can be used to make a almost stop motion effect

I am already in the process of rebuilding my generator to enable us to have powerfull lighting anywhere on set. Unfortunatly i was unable to start the genorator so we had to used main power which restricted the lighting angles fortunatly i was able to be inginuitive and i believe this problem was over-come.

this light is the most powerfull and give a yellow colour light

this light is bright giving out a white light
but can get very very hot

Analysis of Genre, Mise-en-scene and Shot composition

Genre

·         Genre changes though video to suggest the sorrow of Shelby is building. this is doen to emote feelings of empathy for the actress as her boyfrined has cheated on her with another.

·         Romance- love or heartache this is integral to any music video as it allows the director to emote  greater emotional states. i have used this for this very reason and fits the naritive genre im hoping to achieve.   

·         Black and white signifies –past tence and sorro and regret however in my video i had no need to signifi past tence so i didnt use black and white. 

·         Empty alone isolated i showed this by all the shots being of one person. 

·         Pub - Drowning sorrows

 

Mise-en-scene

·         Lights disco effect

·         Dark outside suggesting a night out  

·         Streets either abandoned or everyone moving past fast as Shelby is almost frozen in time.

·         Lots of red  

·         Cold environment suggests fear despair

·         Kiss creates a sense of empathy for Shelby as they know her man is cheating.  

 

Shot composition

·          High angle  long shot

·          establishing shot often showing the whole set or to show a different

·         Each shot is used to represent the  message being conveyed

·         Final long shot fading as it retracts.

·         Performance and narrative in one video.

·         Shots tend to be either extreme close up or extreme long shots one or the other no middle ground
