the point of a music promo is to make a video that relates to the music of the artist, the purpose of this is to increase target audience interest whilst increasing the number of people experiencing the music

Who are the audience for promos?
The audience relates to the music genre which is expressed meaning the song has a unique target audience.

Where is it exhibited by the audience?
youtube, vimeo, TV, adverts and music channels they are all used as a portal to the target audience in an attempt to increase sale of the songs which are the real product.
 

History of a music promo

Bob Dylan subterranean blues music video was a very simple yet effective music video however the promos have vastly developed since then videos became more and more prevalent throughout the development of  ''top of the pops'' and ''chart based'' shows which developed the live or mimed performances at shows and on TV producing sometimes a fake concert with fake audience. the films became more and more used as bands became more known and less available making them often miss or late for  the shows so they were replace with pre-filmed video of the band .

Mike Nesmith-idea for promo based cable TV programme revolution the music industry he was also the first to broadcast a black artist in the music video  walk this way by aerosmith and RUN-DMC.

Established 1981 and Grew rapidly an Early audience demographic was used to put the music people wanted on and was used so effectively that In 1980’s production budgets soared making budgets available to New romantics and their videos one of the greatest videos often called the first pop-rock song Queen's bohemian rhapsody which lead the way showing all the new pop-rock bands where to go the music video contained:
